But how is life possible under such circumstances? The answer is: Chunks!
These oases of life vary in size and climate, and are home to many different biospheres, creatures and even cultures.
There are all sorts of legends and fairy tales about the origin of the Chunks and how they work, but it seems clear that the activities of the Uki - gigantic and very strange creatures - are largely responsible for the creation of habitable Chunks. Almost all chunks have artifacts that make them habitable in the first place, as they create the necessary gravity needed to enable normal biospheres. However, it is unclear whether the Uki were also the constructors of these artifacts or not. All that is certain is that the Uki are deeply connected to the them and that the artifacts seem to have existed since the beginning of time.
One of the things that likely catches your eye first is Arcpunk's strange biology. The life forms of Arcpunks take many shapes that are unfamiliar to us, and at first glance, you might even have trouble interpreting them correctly. However, the structure of the cosmos' organisms is by no means arbitrary. Everything follows a plan.
This plan is also known as "the Evolution of Thought." Most species resemble each other to such an extent that it is clear there has been an evolution of life. Creatures change over time, adapt, or—if they cannot do so themselves—are adapted, but more on that at another time
Arcpunk is a peculiar cosmos, full of dangers and sometimes frightening sights. Yet, the core of nature, the beauty, and fascination of life are present in all areas of Arcpunk, and you are warmly invited to explore and discover the many forms, colors, and peculiarities of life the Cosmos of Arcpunk.
The Arcpunk cosmos is home to numerous sophont species (called Kins), which, while differing in appearance and behavior, exhibit remarkable similarity in cognitive abilities. Although some racist movements repeatedly claim fundamental differences in intelligence between species, all scientific evidence refutes this notion. In fact, differences within a species are often greater than those between species.
The situation is slightly different when it comes to temperament. While individuals from different species can share similar personality traits, there is, on average, a noticeable tendency toward specific emotional or social characteristics that are perceived as typical for a given species.
The most apparent distinctions, however, lie in their physical traits. These remain unaffected by upbringing or culture and serve as a clear marker of an individual’s origin. The sophont species of the cosmos are diverse and, within themselves, shaped by various cultures.
These species are neither evenly distributed across the countless Chunks (Worlds) of the cosmos nor equally represented in number. For example, the Aloo are among the most widespread species, with populations numbering in the millions, whereas the total population of the Kéryx is estimated at fewer than one hundred thousand.
The diversity of sophont species and cultures is a defining feature of the cosmos and a testament to its fascinating, vibrant complexity.
